Dear Families,
Firstly, I want to thank you for your patience over the last few days. It has been a challenging and frustrating time.
I have been pushing to make decisions around opening the night before we have been due to return but this has not always been possible.
For this, I am sorry and ask that you understand the difficulties I have been faced with around getting accurate information relating to the safe opening of the school site.
I have always tried to inform families as soon as I have been given information about school opening but this has not always been accurate, leaving me with making a decision much later than I would have liked. However, I do want to recognise the efforts of our school site team who have been on site from 4am every day and have shifted tonnes of snow to make site as safe and accessible as possible from this afternoon. Ultimately, school would not be open without their amazing efforts.
With this in mind, I want to let you know now that school will be open tomorrow (10/01/25) from the later time of 9:15am for secondary students and 9:30am for primary children.
School will finish at the usual time. There will be no after school clubs until next Monday.
I want to ensure staff and families have additional time to travel as safely as possible to the school site and to give our site team more time to re-grit the car park and pathways in the morning.
Side roads and pathways around Rhodesway are still covered in ice and snow and I want you all to take care on your way to school - safety has to be our first priority.
There will be staff on site from 7:30am tomorrow for any secondary students who need to be dropped off early - they should report to the canteen and will be given free breakfast and kept dry and warm until other students arrive.
Primary parents who have use of our breakfast club provision can also drop children off at the usual time of 8am.
The back car park and entrance will remain closed until the end of this week - please drop off at the front of school.
I will make a decision and communicate to you tomorrow afternoon in relation to Friday's start time.
